J.S. Hospital was comissioned in 1960 by Dr.J.Sugavanam, the first U.K qualified ENT surgeon in Salem, Tamil Nadu, India. He was well recognized and highly respected for his contribution in the field of otorhinolaryngology. He was the first to introduce the operating microscope for ear surgery in Salem. Following in his footsteps, his son Dr. Jayaramachandran after graduating from Stanley Medical College, Chennai, left for the U.K in 1984 to obtain higher surgical training in ENT surgery. Having obtained FRCS qualification from the University of Edinburgh, he continued to polish his clinical acumen and surgical skills.

He obtained excellent training in micro ear surgery, micro laryngeal surgery, cancer surgery of head & neck, endoscopic sinus surgery and skull base surgery working in many institutions under well renowned consultants in the U.K for ten years. He returned to Salem in 1994 to join his father to provide ENT service to the people of Salem. The purpose built new J.S. Hospital was commissioned in 1997 and has since grown in strength. The medical team provides quality ENT and head & neck surgery and Maxillo-Facial surgery service in Salem, Namakkal, Dharmapuri, Krishnagiri and Erode Districts. Patients who have heard about the excellent treatment provided in this institution form their friends and relatives have come from Coimbatore, Bangalore, Chennai, Mumbai and Delhi to undergo ENT treatment in this institution. People of Salem and other nearby districts working abroad in the UK, USA, MALAYSIA, SINGAPORE AND MIDDLE EAST avail the services offered while they come on their holiday.

Besides the skill and the competence of the doctors, state of the art equipment is necessary for the smooth and safe conduction of surgical procedures. Acknowledging this fact and with its commitment to keep pace with the recent advances and current trends, the hospital is equipped with all the necessary internationally recognized imported equipments for the safe execution of ENT treatment including the latest Aura KTP laser. J.S Hospital is the third unit in Tamil Nadu and sixth unit in India to acquire this laser. The latest addition is the sleep lab to assess the adequacy of proper sleep.
